Math Supplements

Step-by-step companion lessons for students using the Mathematics Vision Project curriculum.

Why this site exists

The Mathematics Vision Project (MVP) curriculum is discovery-based. Students work through tasks in class and are expected to figure out the mathematical ideas themselves. The packets contain little direct instruction and almost no worked examples, and the Ready, Set, Go homework has no answers to check against. Students who get stuck at home can have a hard time knowing how to move forward.

These lessons are an optimistic attempt to fill that gap. Each one is aligned to a specific section in an MVP module. See the What’s in each lesson section below.

What’s in each lesson

  • Explanations of important ideas, with new terms defined and familiar material reviewed briefly or linked to an earlier lesson.
  • Worked examples where useful, with explanations of the steps and graphs or diagrams where they help.
  • Help with Ready, Set, and Go, focused on the skills needed for the homework.
  • Answer keys for Ready, Set, and Go, with explanations where needed. When a required plot isn’t included, the key says so.
  • Packet clarifications where needed: notes addressing confusing wording or mathematical errors.
  • Additional learning resources where useful, chosen to match the topic and students’ level.
  • For teachers and parents: notes on substantial packet problems and a table showing where the material is covered.

How to use these lessons

  • Use each lesson alongside its MVP section. Every lesson matches one numbered section of the packet. Read it on the day that section is taught: after class, or when you sit down to do the Ready, Set, Go homework.
  • Keep using the MVP packet. These lessons are a companion to the packet, not a replacement for its tasks and homework.
  • Try your homework before checking the answers. Work through the problems on your own, then use the provided answer key to check your work.
  • If you’re still confused, look for additional learning resources linked in the lesson.
